High Altitude and Anesthesia

چکیده
Anesthesia at high altitude is a challenging task for all anesthesiologists. The high-altitude intensivists are challenged by the human organism in a hypoxic environment, and the true research potentials presented by high altitude, where thebody is subjected to an essentially isolatedhypoxic challenge, are just beginning to be realized. One of the problems when talking about high altitude is the absence of any universally accepted definition as to what exactly constitutes “high.” High altitude generally means an elevation of 3,000 m or more above the sea level (►Table 1). Although the biological effect of high altitude appears at lower levels, but at this level onward, people ascending to high mountains generally show biochemical, physical, or anatomical changes.1

Total intravenous anesthesia produces outcomes superior to those with combined intravenous–inhalation anesthesia for laparoscopic gynecological surgery at high altitude
Objective We compared efficacy and adverse outcomes following totally intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) versus combined intravenous-inhalation anesthesia (CIVIA) on hemodynamics and postoperative recovery following laparoscopic gynecological (LG) surgery at high altitudes. Methods We enrolled 80 ASA I or II patients scheduled for LG surgery and randomly assigned them to TIVA with propofol (group P,...

Introduction: High altitude destinations are popular among international travelers. Travel medicine practitioners should be familiar with altitude physiology and high altitude illness recognition, prophylaxis, and management. We performed the first bibliometric analysis of high altitude medicine research. Methods: All articles published in a specialist hi...
متن کاملCerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis Masquerading as High Altitude Cerebral Edema at Extreme Altitude
Introduction: Extreme altitude travel has gained popularity globally for adventurous, scientific, and military endeavors. Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) at extreme altitude is a rare, covert, and emergent condition requiring immediate intervention. Case Presentation: A case of CVST masqueraded as high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) at 6700 m/22000 ft i...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of the High-altitude Launch Technique to Orbit Using Atmospheric Properties
The purpose of this paper is to perform the feasibility and performance evaluation of the High-altitude launch technique using high altitude atmospheric Properties to near earth orbits. The current propulsion transportation system from Earth to space has been deemed by many to be expensive, unreliable, and an unnecessarily dangerous means of travel to space. It is suggested in this paper to ana...
متن کاملSpace Environment and Evaluation of Typical High Altitude Satellite
The space environment consists mainly of high-energy charged particles, such as protons, electrons and heavy ions. They are originating from several sources including galactic cosmic radiation, solar flares and van Allen belts. High energy electromagnetic radiation and neutrons have also been measured on spacecraft. Although shielding can reduce the effect of space radiation it cannot be elimin...
